By Catie Butt, with Alex Irvine

Published a hundred years after Charlie Butt’s birth, Charlie’s Way tells the surprising and uplifting story of author Catie Butt’s dad, longtime Bowdoin coach and multinational top-tier athlete Charlie Butt, and how he came to the US by stowing away on a ship in the Tianjin harbor and then went on to become a legendary figure in Bowdoin athletics, at Piping Rock Club in New York, at Springfield College, and in US squash. With stories told in Charlie’s own words, photos, artifacts, correspondence, and reminiscences from figures throughout Charlie’s life, Charlie’s Way tells an inspiring story of a courageous and well-lived life that left an indelible mark on Bowdoin.

The proceeds from the sale of Charlie’s Way will be added to the corpus of the Charles J. Butt Scholarship Fund.
